The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), comprising 8 scientists from the Université de Lyon and 8 external profiles, is a key governance committee for the IDEXLYON project. The committee, which is set to fulfill an advisory role on academic strategy and contribute significant international scientific expertise, met for the first time on Tuesday 18 July at the Université de Lyon.

The SAB’s top level international scientific expertise will contribute to ensuring optimal management for the IDEXLYON project. In particular, the committee will provide strategic recommendations on academic priorities and their implementation, and contribute scientific expertise to proeminent research projects and educational activities. The SAB will meet three times a year.

The first meeting’s agenda focused on several key questions that are directly related both to the recommendations the international jury made when awarding the IDEX label, and to two of the project’s major themes, namely, international attractiveness and the emergence of new research themes.

Discussions were led by Sybille Reichert, Chairwoman of the SAB, and addressed the following questions:

  • How should the IDEXLYON structure its calls for projects in order to attract top level academics to the Université de Lyon? Which levers should be given more weight regarding the environment and reception conditions?
  • What funding schemes are appropriate for encouraging emerging scientific research areas at the Université de Lyon?

The recommendations formulated by the SAB on these themes will be used in the preparation of new calls for projects to be launched in autumn 2017.

The next SAB meeting will take place in November 2017.
