Helping the employability of PhD students

Prior to the PhD: our "Doctor'Entreprise" program

Via industry-sponsored fundings (CIFRE: Conventions industrielles de formation par la recherche),
the Université de Lyon helps bring Master's degree students into contact with socio-economic partners looking to hire a PhD student,  as well as with a public laboratory to build a collaborative research project.

This program, called "Doctor'Entreprise", is conducted conjointly between the Université de Lyon and MEDEF Lyon-Rhône.

Other linking up is notably carried out during the "Doctor Employment Day" (Journée pour l'emploi des docteurs), focusing either on exact sciences or humanities and social sciences, and hosted by the Université de Lyon.

During the PhD: Professional development courses

All PhD students enrolled in one of the Doctoral Schools of the Université de Lyon benefit from a doctoral training appropriate to both their research goals and career plan.

Scientific training is validated and organized by the Doctoral School; students are also invited to follow cross-disciplinary courses, after discussion with and approval by both their Doctoral School director and thesis supervisor.

After the PhD: our "Doctor-Consultant" program

Set up in 2008 and supported by Lyon Métropole and the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes council, this program reflects the close links that exist between the Université de Lyon and the corporate world.

The beneficiaries, recently graduated PhDs, are recruited on a six-month temporary contract offering them their first professional experience. In exchange their employer takes full advantage of their high level of expertise and their state-of-the-art skills, talents keenly sought after in the corporate environment for the steering of innovative projects and the establishment of development strategies.
