On January 18th 2017, Mona Nemer, Vice-President Research at the University of Ottawa, kindly attended and participated in the evening reception organized to support Universit de Lyons IDEXLYON project.

During her speech, Dr. Nemer confirmed that the University of Ottawa is fully supporting the Université de Lyon regarding this project, as the latter is preparing for its final hearing in front of an international jury next month.

The “Excellence Iniatives” (IDEX) request for proposals were launched by the French government in order to encourage the emergence in France of new world-class multidisciplinary clusters of higher education and research.

For years, the Université de Lyon and the University of Ottawa has been working in close partnership. Since 2014, the University of Ottawa has also been an active member of the International Alliance of the Université de Lyon.

As part of this partnership, several actions for training and research are developed: framework agreements, specific agreements to foster the mobility of medical interns from the Université de Lyon to the University of Ottawa, agreements for the incoming mobility of master’s degree students, creation of the international associated laboratory FUNCAT based in Ottawa, participation of students from the Université de Lyon in the Bromley Event, setting up of international joint PhDs, organization of workshops, etc.

During her visit, Dr. Nemer met representatives from member and associated institutions of the Université de Lyon, in order to develop new projects with the objective of increasing the outgoing mobility of students completing master’s degrees in the fields of chemistry or political sciences. New links for future collaboration were also established with the Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne for the development of an outgoing mobility program designed for medical interns.
